My Favorite Books & Music From 2013

IMG_2702‘Tis the season for making lists, is it not?

I usually like to read lists like this so I figured I’d let you in on what I read and listened to the most this last year.

As always, your contribution is welcome in the comments. This will give me new ideas for this new year!

Favorite Books I Read in 2013

I didn’t read as many books as I wanted to this year…but of what I read these were the ones that inspired me the most…to love God, to enjoy life more, to try new adventures, and to live with more purpose.

1. David & Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell

2. The Four Hour Chef by Tim Ferris

3. The Art of Possibility by Rosamund Stone Zander & Benjamin Zander

4. Every Good Endeavor by Tim Keller

9. The Icarus Deception by Seth Godin

10. Daily Rituals: How Artists Work by Mason Curry

Favorite Music from 2013

I listen to a lot of music. As a worship leader and writer, I listen and study most of popular worship music. This isn’t a review of my favorite worship albums.

This list is purely about what I found myself listening to the most, day in and day out. Albums I never tired of. They don’t have anything to do with what is popular, but simply what I found moving.

A lot of the music I listen to on a daily basis is instrumental, reflective, and quiet. It’s the kind of tone I like to set for my day.

1. Oblivion Hymns by Hammock

2. Kviekur by Sigur Ros

3. Trouble Will Find Me by The National

4. Atlas EPs by Sleeping at Last

5. Your Grace Finds Me by Matt Redman

6. I Am Mountain by Gungor

7. Pure Heroine by Lorde

8. Collected Recordings by Gareth Dickson

9. Nightmare Ending by Eluvium

10. A Quiet Darkness by Houses

11. Reflektor by Arcade Fire

12. Advent EP 3 by Future of Forestry

13. For Now I Am Winter by Olafur Arnalds

14. Stories from Elsewhere by Rhian Sheehan

My favorite album from 2013 is Oblivion Hymns. Without question. But, one that I’ve listened to a lot that wasn’t on this list, is When It Was Now by Atlas Genius. Great album.

My favorite book was Emotionally Healthy Spirituality by Peter Scazzero. It was life-changing.

I haven’t listened to Atlas Genius much. I suppose I should give it some listens?

They’re self-produced and sound amazing. Really cool vibe.
