It doesn’t matter how talented you are.
It doesn’t matter if you’re the best in the world. When it comes to having an effective ministry, you need more than natural skill.
No, I’m not here to advocate laziness.
Of course, you should work on your guitar scales.
Of course, you should develop the discipline of songwriting.
Of course, you should go to the next level as a worship leader.
Effective ministry is never less than hard work. But it’s also so much more.
Why is this?
Do you ever feel like you’re alone?
That your struggles are different than everyone else’s?
You hear worship leaders talk about their live recordings, large teams, and expansive click track setups while you struggle to get people to attend your church.
You’re wondering if you’ll have a drummer on Sunday, let alone how unified your team will be in worship.
Just because you lead worship at a small church doesn’t make you less anointed, less significant, less important to the body of Christ.
Matter of fact, we need you.
Do you wish you had more hours in the day?
Wouldn’t life be amazing if you could come home from your day job full of energy, spend quality time with your kids, listen to your wife, have a family dinner, and then work on your your songwriting craft into the evening?
Then, you lay your head down for a full 8 hours, awaking with a smile on your face and a jump in your step.
But it’s never that.
If I’m honest, sometimes I get bored.
I mean, I can lead worship without hardly thinking about it. I know the proper phrases. I know the right songs. I know how to get hands in the air and invite people to sing along.
But deep down, I know something is missing.
We’ve all been in situations where background vocalists were out of place.
They distracted rather than enhanced.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Your role as a background vocalist is to lead worship.
You inspire people.
You model what it means to approach the throne of grace.
And this post is to help you get there – to give you confidence as you lead others in worship.
