Are Our Worship Songs Too Romantic?

Have you ever thought about the feminine, romantic nature of our worship songs? How do non-Christians (and men in general) feel when we sing songs of such intimacy?

  • “God, You are beautiful”
  • “I’m so in love with You”
  • “I pour my love on You”
  • “Heaven meets earth like a…”
  • “Your fragrance is intoxicating”

Matt Redman has some great insights in this brief interview.

Baby Worship [Video]

OK, so I just came across this and wasn’t sure how to react. I started out by laughing out loud for 5 minutes and then was touched by the beauty of this child in the presence of God. The scary thing is this looks a LOT like my church.

Make sure you catch the subtitles.

Take it however you want, but know, this is pure awesomeness 🙂

Worship Leading Secrets: Pursue Unsatisfied Satisfaction

What is your current status as a worshiper? Notice I didn’t say worship leader. Apart from the rehearsals, songs, strategies, music, & services, where is your passion level?

Your effectiveness as a worship leader will rise and fall on your white hot desire for Jesus. Otherwise you will burn out. Get bored. Want a new job. Give up.

Know what you need to do? Pursue unsatisfied satisfaction.

UNSATISFIED meaning you are not stagnant. You want to know God more each day. You’re not satisfied with your current knowledge of God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Scripture, Evangelism, Passion. You’ve made a choice that you WILL NOT COAST through this life in a lukewarm state. You want God.

SATISFIED meaning God is enough. You aren’t looking away from the cross for a deeper meaning. The upward call of God in Christ Jesus is your goal. His love is enough for your self esteem. His grace is enough for your sin. His faithfulness is enough for your pain. He is everything you need. Period.

Question: how are you doing managing this tension? What could you do to pursue UNSATISFIED SATISFACTION today?

How Awkward Are Your Worship Services?

This video is hilarious.

It’s always healthy to imagine what guests (unaccustomed to expressive worship) are experiencing when they come to our services. As leaders, we need to be “students of the room” – engaging our ‘front row fans’ while ministering to the back row spectators. Pastor Steven Furtick brilliantly describes this idea in his post: “The Danger of the Front Row” (worth the read).

Think about your unchurched guests for a minute.

How Do You “Keep it Real” on Sunday Morning?

I could be naive, but I imagine the word “worship” used to be a lot simpler. Worship today is a buzzword, an industry, a brand. While I’m thrilled that the worship of God is immensely popular and prominent, I wonder if we are losing the heart. Is it possible to go through the motions of worship services, program massive productions, build bigger churches, and God not be worshiped?

What comes to mind when you think about worship?
