One of the biggest influences on my worship leading and songwriting is Matt Redman. It was such an honor to catch up with him on the podcast.
I don’t know anyone who is a better lyricist with worship songs than Matt Redman. Every word has feeling. Every word makes sense. Every syllable is meticulously placed.
This is definitely a songwriting episode. We discuss his songwriting habits, collaborative writing, the new album, and discuss his upbringing.
Unfortunately I was a bit sick during this interview, so you’ll hear that as well 🙂

Show Sponsor
Today’s podcast is sponsored by Omnisphere by Spectrasonics. Omnisphere is my latest piece of software for keys and probably the only one I’ll ever need. Incredible pads and textures, innovative keyboard sounds, strings, lead synths, basses and arpeggios, it’s got it all. Literally some of the best sounding patches for keys I’ve ever heard.
We’re in the production stages of recording our next live album and Omnisphere is becoming a massive part of our sound for this project. Run it through MainStage, Logic, Pro Tools, or even Garage Band and you have keys rig for your worship sets that is better sounding and more customizable than anything you’ve ever experienced. Check it out!

I’ve followed Matt’s ministry/music for a long time and have always been blessed by his insightfulness and heart for the Lord. The Friendship and the Fear impacted me so much as a worshipper that I would never be the same. The way his early songs (and those from folks like Delirious) made praise and adoration personal really informed and influenced my own journey with the Lord as a disciple and worship leader.
I must admit, since Matt has been plugged-into the American worship music collaborative, I have not enjoyed as much of what he has released on his albums. That’s not to say that he hasn’t co-written on some great songs that wound-up on others’ albums. That’s also not to say that perhaps my musical taste is just different now, etc. I don’t know. I do know this, whether or not I’m digging what he’s recording, I’ll always appreciate him as a leader and a brother in the Lord.

Agreed, Bill! Matt’s music has had such an impact on me. I’m also a bit more tied to his early stuff but I think that has more to do with where I was in life at that time. Music is always tied to special ways God is moving. I relate that time to when I first started to really pursue God. Will always be a special season of my life.

Hi, curious, have you ever interviewed John Mark McMillan? Him and Matt Redmond are 2 of my top fav songwriters (-:
David Santistevan says
I have not (yet)! Definitely in the pipeline to have a chat with him. Probably will do so upon the release of his new Jesus Culture album.
