Imagine this:
You are in charge. You have authority. The buck starts and stops with you.
You are a leader.
Breathe in the fresh air. You’ve arrived.
Leadership is wonderful. Until, of course, when it isn’t.
You can’t get volunteers to show up.
Your best people leave.
You don’t know where you’re going.
Nobody seems to be listening to a word you’re saying.
After a while, the leadership you always dreamed about has become an awful game of crises management.
If worship was all about singing songs, we wouldn’t need to attend church.
We could stay home, pop on our favorite worship CD, and sing until Joel Osteen came on TV.
It’s more than just the rote reciting of truth.
When we gather to worship, Almighty God is in the room. And that requires a special skill set for any worship team.
You can’t merely sing songs…God is present.
You can’t merely play great music…God has an agenda.
You can’t merely pick a great set list…God is speaking to His people.
The question is, “Are you listening, worship leader?”
You’d have to be living in a worship leader cave to not recognize the resurgence of hymns in contemporary worship.
Hymns are here to stay. And as worship leaders, it’s important that we use them.
We’ve heard it all.
Worship isn’t about music. It’s all about the heart.
Still, no matter how often you place the emphasis on anything but music, music remains a big deal.
Not only do our worship services revolve around music, we even have entire tours that revolve around worship music.
Music is everywhere. It has become synonymous with worship.
Yes, it’s a big deal in the church today. But it’s also a big deal in the Bible.
