10 Essential Life Lessons For Young, Aspiring Leaders

Do you ever wish you could go back and give advice to your younger self?

Imagine the problems you could have avoided, the pain you could have lived without.

Then again, you wouldn’t be who you are today without the mistakes you’ve made. As Heath Ledger would say, “It’s all part of the plan.”

While you may not be able to change what you’ve done, you can offer advice to the next generation as you mentor, disciple and release them to do greater things.

One Simple Way To Become More Creative

Are You Making Disciples Or Abusing Volunteers?

Does the question scare you? It should.

Believe it or not, you are reproducing who you are  in others.

If your volunteers were to adopt your habits, your values, your work ethic, your pace of life, and your passion for Jesus, would they succeed?

Would they still be serving in ministry in 5-10 years?

Or would they suffer from boredom or burnout?

Self Worship: A Worship Leader’s Ongoing Journey From Selfishness To Surrender

The hour before I do anything is a nightmare.

I hate waiting. Patience isn’t just a virtue I don’t possess, I’m deathly allergic to it. Then again, it’s not really a fruit of the Spirit, so I’m good. Oh, wait.

I stress about what’s going to happen. I’m nervous.

The hour before going to the dentist? Sheer terror.

The hour before dinner is ready? Pure starvation.

The hour before I lead worship?

How To Know If Your Dream Is Worth Pursuing

I consider giving up almost every day.

I think it’s time to stop writing.

I think it’s time to stop learning.

I think it’s time to stop putting myself out there.

But then I realized something else.

If a dream doesn’t freak you out, you’re dreaming too small.

If you’re not facing resistance, your dream is too easy.

If you don’t fight feelings of giving up and cowering under pressure, you’re not doing anything worthwhile.

So next time you feel like giving up, remind yourself that you’re probably doing something right.

Don’t give up. Keep writing. Keep singing. Keep speaking. Keep creating.

Keep doing what you do.

Expand. Innovate. Create. Take risks. Put it out there.

Join the party.

Question: What is a dream that you feel like giving up on? Share it in the comments. There’s power in some good, healthy confession. You can leave a comment by clicking here.
