Worship leader, do you assume that people love your music?
More specifically, do you assume that people love music?
I understand you listen to music all the time, understand its intricacies, and get emotionally fired up when you hear it.
But not everyone feels that way.
Worship leader, it’s not just about your singing.
It’s not a matter of your songwriting brilliance and your penchant for good guitar tone.
No, it’s not even the french press coffee, skinny jeans, and passion for obscure, indie post rock music.
Your life is a testimony of worship. You lead by your lifestyle.
Older worship leader, they don’t hate you. They just have a hard time with your music.
I know it can be intimidating to lead worship for opinionated, musically-driven, young people.
But this is a question you must wrestle with.
New songs.
If you lead worship, you’re always on the lookout for that next “worship hit” that will work with your congregation.
But new songs can be tricky.
They need to be introduced well. Sometimes a great song misses the mark because it wasn’t set up properly. Or because the rest of the worship set was too unfamiliar for people to engage.
Can’t we all just get along?
Is it possible for a young worship leader to connect with someone twice or three times their age?
Is the older generation immature for not worshiping? Is the younger generation immature for not caring?
I’m convinced we should do all it takes to see the generations stand together in worship.
