#134: Paul Baloche On Authenticity & Avoiding a Jaded Heart [Podcast]

authenticity

Paul Baloche is our first 3-peat guest on the Beyond Sunday Podcast.

It’s probably because he’s saying something we need to hear. Matter of fact, Paul has been trumpeting the cause of the local church and being a Pastor to Worship Pastors for many years.

When I was a young, his songs helped to form my expression of worship. What I love about Paul’s music is how he’s always stayed true to who he is. He’s never tried to “reinvent himself”. He’s always written beautiful, catchy, simple songs of worship that connect with people of all ages.

In this conversation we talk about his new album, avoiding a jaded heart, being authentic on stage, and more. When most people ramble, it’s annoying. When Paul rambles, it’s time to take notes.

Enjoy!

Kids, Parenting, & Avoiding A Jaded Heart

kids-1

There’s nothing more scary than parenting.

Well, except maybe public speaking in your underwear. But seriously. More than anyone else on the earth, you as a parent have the most influence on the lives of your kids.

I’ve only been a parent for four years, but I’ve found parenting is mostly about getting out of the way. I can screw things up more often than not.

I’ve seen both extremes. Some parents are completely unavailable and distanced. They don’t seem to care. They leave parenting up to daycare, nanny’s, the nursery, or even kids ministry. The other extreme is being so hard on your kids that you crush every ounce of pure, innocent life they have.

And let me tell you, kids are amazing. The longer I live, the more I want to be more like my kids. I want to get rid of the hardness of heart, jaded attitudes, hidden sins, and just jump into life with every ounce of passion I possess.

#133: Michael Neale On Organizing A Team, Shaping Culture, & Choirs In Worship [Podcast]

transition

This week we welcome Michael Neale back to the podcast. Michael is an award-winning songwriter and artist with Integrity Music, an author, as well as the new Worship Pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church, a 42,000 member congregation in Dallas, Texas.

This is another one of those great conversations where we go behind the scenes of a worship department – how the team is structured, when they rehearse, and some best practices for organizing a team. We also talk about the new Prestonwood album, choirs in worship, and more.

Enjoy!

Leading Through Doubt, Struggle, & Lack Of Faith

leading

It’s OK. Trust me, it is.

Your struggle, doubt, and lack of faith isn’t the end of you. It doesn’t have to be the end of your ministry.

Matter of fact, it might just be the beginning of something extraordinary.

We all have those moments. We know we need to be strong, full of faith, men and women living in the power of God. Truth is, sometimes we doubt. We stand on stage in a ministry role and struggle to believe God is who He says He is at times. We feel weak.

Ever been there? If you have, it’s a scary place to be and it’s even scarier to admit.

Will God abandon me because I doubt Him? Am I destined for destruction? What will my pastor think? Should I still be a leader?
