This podcast doesn’t exist just to promote music from artists and songwriters. Sure, that’s a part of what many of us do. But this is primarily about the week in, week out work of reaching people in our local churches. Occasionally we get to hear from a church that is doing both well.

Today I sit down with Jake & Tyler from Red Rocks Worship in Colorado to discuss their new album, but also how they build a great team, reach unbelievers in their services, and carry out the vision of their local church. It’s a great chat.

Enjoy!

The Problem With Modernizing Your Worship Services

The problem with

All we local church worship leaders feel the sinking feeling in our gut when we see another church doing something cooler, hipper, better, more modern.

How can we make our worship experience more “up-to-date?”

What do we need to change?”

How can we do what we’re doing better?”

I hear this question a lot – “How can we modernize our worship?”

And I believe that’s the wrong question.

We have a whole collection of electric toothbrushes that are all in different keys.” – Eric Persing

A quote like that is what makes me love Eric Persing. Eric is the founder of Spectrasonics, a company specializing in developing World Class software ‘virtual instruments’ since 1994.

He has produced dozens of the sampling industry’s top selling titles and gone on to create the award-winning Omnisphere, Stylus RMX, Trilian, Atmosphere and Trilogy software virtual instruments. Eric’s ground-breaking instruments and sound libraries are the best selling and most widely used in the world. Spectrasonics products are in constant use on thousands of major film, television, music, game and multimedia productions.

In this conversation we talk about sound design, the building of Spectrasonics, staying inspired, and so much more. Eric and I were on a Skype call and he shows us some of his instruments at the top of the interview. I apologize you won’t be able to see those instruments here on this audio podcast. You’ll just have to imagine the awesomeness.

Enjoy!

What Every Worship Team Needs To Do This Year

what every

This past Sunday I asked my worship team a question:

“How can we better connect with our congregation in 2016?”

After the usual sarcastic remarks of getting rid of the stage, passing out tambourines at the door, and inviting anyone on stage, the conversation became beautiful. We began to discuss what it would take for us to connect with people and for our people to connect with God.

Here are some of those insights:

“Once you’ve tasted a little bit of pioneering, you never want to settle.” – Stu G

It’s refreshing to talk with someone who has had decades of experience doing the same thing without a jaded heart. That’s why I love Stu G. Stu is one of the founding members of the band Delirious, an incredible guitarist, and one who has had a massive influence upon modern worship in so many ways.

In this chat we dive into some of Stu’s Delirious memories, his transition from the band to what he’s doing now, as well as his new project “Have You Heard” – music which predates Delirious. And for you guitar players out there, we geek out for a bit about Stu’s live setup and signal chain.

Enjoy!
