The Zero Criticism Challenge

THE ZERO CRITICISM

On a scale of 1 to 10, how critical are you?

Sure, some of our personalities are more prone to it. And being critical isn’t always a negative trait. Critical people don’t settle – they possess high standards of excellence.

But that’s not today’s topic. I’m talking about the kind of criticism that can keep us from the presence of God. The kind of criticism that is always looking in from the outside, looking down on others, and keeping us from being the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

Nervous? Here we go.

Are Our Worship Experiences Missing The Point?

Are Our

What is it that really constitutes a great worship experience?

To me, the word “experience” doesn’t do justice to our gatherings.

When I think of experience, I think of my family’s recent trip to Disney World. Man, that was an experience. It was an experience lugging two toddlers around the enchanted streets. It was an experience buying a $10 turkey leg. It was quite the experience seeing the castle lit up at night with fireworks all around. It was memorable. It was fun. Was it life changing? Hardly.

“We are local first. We are in neighborhoods, we live on streets, we live in homes, we live in a city. God has called us to serve local first.” – Robbie Seay

Such an honor to have one of my favorite artists on the show today – none other than Robbie Seay. Ever since my college days I’ve always resonated with Robbie’s music. It is passionate, raw, believable, and moving spiritual songs.

In this episode we talk about raising inspired kids, songwriting, local church ministry, the different between worship leaders and worship pastors, and how to effectively balance global and local ministry. A goldmine!

Enjoy!

To The Small Team Worship Leader

TO THE

If there’s someone in the worship world who feels alone and forgotten, it’s the worship leader who leads a small team. Because you’re not focused on being cool or different. You’re trying to make it through Sunday. You’re trying to give your church the best worship experience possible.

But sometimes your drummer doesn’t show up.

Your piano player doesn’t know how to keep it simple.

Your vocalists don’t have the greatest tone or pitch.

Maybe you don’t have a clue what you’re doing.

You feel stuck, confused, not sure where to go next.

Sound familiar?

This podcast doesn’t exist just to promote music from artists and songwriters. Sure, that’s a part of what many of us do. But this is primarily about the week in, week out work of reaching people in our local churches. Occasionally we get to hear from a church that is doing both well.

Today I sit down with Jake & Tyler from Red Rocks Worship in Colorado to discuss their new album, but also how they build a great team, reach unbelievers in their services, and carry out the vision of their local church. It’s a great chat.

Enjoy!
